Mimmo Paladino: “I wanted to make a film, taking it to Venice was a dream” | NTR24.TV
Mimmo Paladino, director of the film “Quijote” screened in the Romantic Garden of the Royal Palace, announces his arrival at the last moment, giving a surprise to the audience. “I’m here tonight to tell you the story of this film and how my dream came true.”
It was presented by Mario Epifani, director of Palazzo Reale in Naples who organized the event to accompany the exhibition “Don Quixote between Naples, Caserta and the Quirinale: cartoons and tapestries” running until 6 September. “An initiative – he says – that testifies to the interest and creativity that Miguel de Cervantes’ novel has aroused in various arts, from painting to manufacturing, from music to cinema”.
“Being able to see my film on the big screen this evening – said Mimmo Paladino – is an honor for me and a great pleasure. Film is a medium that leaves room for the imagination just like Don Quixote, a visionary nomad who sees things that others do not see.
On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the publication of Cervantes’ book, in 2005, I made an exhibition in Capodimonte My desire was to also make a film and with Angelo Curti we made a ‘short’ of just over half an hour, making it return in the planned budget. It was Marco Müller, director of the Venice Film Festival, who proposed to make a longer film from it in Venice in 2006.
If for a painter, an artist going to Venice for the Biennale can represent an international dream, it is even more so to be invited to the Venice Film Festival ”.
Also present at the evening, organized as part of the SummerFest Cesare Acceptcinematographer of the film with Peppe Servillo and Lucio Dallaprotagonists in the role of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, flanked by an exceptional cast.
Mimmo Paladino defined it, before presenting it in Venice, “a lunar film that asks to be seen looking for the errant knight who is lost somewhere in each of us”.
The film was made in Sannio, the birthplace of Paladino, as well as the film “Infermo” that the master has just shot and which is currently being edited, which is inspired by another masterpiece of world literature, the “Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri”.
