EUGENE, Ore., July 19 (Reuters) – The young pistol Kristjan Ceh from Slovenia dethroned Sweden’s Daniel Stahl in the discus final at the world championships on Tuesday, which gave his life’s achievement to win gold.
Olympic champion and 2019 winner Stahl kept a very short lead with an opening of 66.59 meters but was quickly overtaken by the Lithuanian duo Mykolas Alekna and Andrius Gudzius, improved to 67.10 on his fifth attempt but never came back to medal .
The 23-year-old Ceh sent roars through Hayward Field as he rocketed a third attempt at 71.13 yards across the lawn of Eugene, Oregon, and climbed to the top of the podium in a championship record.
Alekna and Gudzius finished with silver and bronze and jogged along the track with the nation’s flag waving behind them.
