Switzerland offers Indian companies technical innovations
NEW DELHI: Manufacturing and Mountains. The Swiss are showing this in a post-pandemic push to get their economy going at full speed. As part of this, Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) and Switzerland Tourism organized the Swiss Tech Experience Week from June 27th. They invited innovative startups from India, Canada, Italy, France and the USA, selected through a competition, to tour a country and visit the facilities for hi-tech R&D and manufacturing, especially in robotics.
Unbox Robotics, which provides supply chain logistics for e-tailers, was the winner from India. Its CEO and co-founder Pramod Ghadge, after visiting the Swiss Smart Factory in Biel, which showcased an assembly line that could be customized to assemble different products, said the environment was ideal for manufacturing high-quality products. Several Indian companies are already present in Switzerland. dr Reddy’s Labs and Chennai-based Zifo RnD Solutions have settled in Basel, known as the gateway to Europe with a port on the river Rhine. Anke Holnagel of Basel Area Business and Innovation says a location in Basel will help companies reach up to 500 million customers across Europe in one day.
Representatives from SGE and Swiss Tourism said Switzerland is multilingual and multicultural, with German, French and Italian influences. And almost everyone spoke English. Tech parks and universities across the country were melting pots that attracted people from all over the world. The Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, one of the best universities in the world, has 120 nationalities among its 13,000 students.
Sirpa Tsimal, director of investment promotion at S-GE, said Switzerland offers quality both at work and at leisure. Investors and professionals get world-class R&D facilities in robotics, life sciences and other high-tech fields, with an equally high quality of life outside of work, she says. S-GE helps those interested in establishing a presence in Switzerland make the right connections for technology, talent acquisition and even funding. In India they have an office in Mumbai.
