San Marino wins the 52nd Asiago International Philatelic Art Prize
The issue celebrating the 50th anniversary of Doctors Without Borders wins the prize for its strong social significance and for the images reproduced.
On Saturday and Sunday the headquarters of the Montana Union Respectable Regency of the Seven Municipalities in Asiago hosted the “52nd Asiago International Philatelic Art Prize”, on Saturday a conference on philatelic art was held while on Sunday 17 July, at On Sunday 17 July, the Asiago International Philatelic Art Prize was awarded at the Asiago Municipal Hall of Paintings, which was won by the Philatelic and Numismatic Division of Poste San Marino for the celebratory series of the 50th anniversary of Doctors borders.
The news was announced by Poste San Marino, adding: The letter awarding the prize reads “The series was appreciated not only for its social significance, because it is graphically very beautiful”.
The series on the 50th anniversary of the founding of Doctors Without Borders was created by designer Riccardo Guasco “RIK” and was issued by the Republic of San Marino on 1 June last year: “The stamp is one of those roads that I should never thought to travel, until I was contacted by the Philatelic and Numismatic Office of the Republic of San Marino to create a series of stamps dedicated to International Family Day, and from that work a pleasant and creative collaboration was born over the years – recalls RIK- . I was pleasantly surprised by the previous victory of this award with the International Family Day series, the same amazement I feel today for this second success. For the series dedicated to Doctors Without Borders I have chosen to focus on what for 50 years has been the mission of this association: human beings and their care. In my stamps everything revolves around two halves of a heart that become wings ”.
To receive the award, a work by Arnaldo Pomodoro, the General Manager of Poste San Marino Gian Luca Amici: “I am truly honored to receive this award, a recognition that the goodness of the choices of our Republic and which, in this case, confirms the specific , makes visible the commendable work of Doctors Without Borders that we wanted to celebrate in the year of its 50th anniversary. I take this opportunity to thank the author of the sketches, RIK and to congratulate him who once again brings San Marino in contralto in an event of this kind ”.
On the occasion of the “52nd Asiago International Prize of Philatelic Art”, the Philatelic and Numismatic Division of Poste San Marino has also created a special cancellation which reproduces the work “Il Gallo di Vaia” by Marco Martalar, artist from Mezzaselva di Roana, which revives the wood that survived the “Vaia storm” that hit the woods between Veneto and Trentino in 2018, transforming it into works of art.
