Salzburg FestungsBahn: large-format work by Leon Löwentraut as an eye-catcher
Salzburg – Just in time for the festival season, Salzburg AG and Salzburg AG Tourismus are bringing a shooting star from the German art scene to the city of Mozart. As part of the anniversary year “130 years of the FestungsBahn”, an impressive painting called “LOST HORIZON” by the painter Leon Löwentraut will adorn the facade of the Salzburg FestungsBahn from July 18th.
Art shooting star in Salzburg
The 24-year-old Leon Löwentraut has made a name for himself in the international art world with impressive speed: his art is in demand worldwide, his exhibition openings are considered an event. His works have already been exhibited in the Kunstforum Wien, in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence, in the historic Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice, in the Bavarian National Museum in Munich, in the Osthaus Museum in Hagen, in the Puschkin Museum in St. Petersburg and in the galleries in New York, London, Copenhagen and Singapore shown.
Now, with “LOST HORIZON”, a large format of his energetic, colorful painting can be seen for the first time in Salzburg at the entrance to the FestungsBahn. As part of the UNESCO campaign #Art4GlobalGoals, Leon Löwentraut has been drawing attention to the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals – the 17 Sustainable Development Goals – that the world community and the United Nations have jointly decided on for several years. Sustainable energy production and combating climate change are central concerns of the artist. Leon Löwentraut: “Earth is a wonderful planet and we must do everything we can to preserve it. Let’s work together to ensure that our earth is also worth living in for our children and their children. We want to change the world for the better. To do this, we have to stick together worldwide, work together and act globally. I am pleased that Salzburg AG supports the 17 SDG goals.”
Sustainability as a connecting element
The artist’s intensive examination of topics such as climate change and sustainability is a unifying element for Salzburg AG and the reason for the company’s commitment. Leonhard Schitter, CEO of Salzburg AG: “As a green tech company, Salzburg AG sees itself as developing and offering numerous solutions for a sustainable life for our customers. We are convinced that it takes a joint effort to implement the energy transition, for example. We use many channels to raise awareness, and I am convinced that with this large-scale work by Leon Löwentraut we can further sensitize local people to the topic of sustainability.”
The start of 130 years of the FestungsBahn: tradition meets modernity
For the FestungsBahn, the design of the facade is the prelude to numerous activities related to the 130th anniversary, which is on July 30th. is celebrated with an action day, says Daniela Kinz, Managing Director of Salzburg AG Tourismus: “The Salzburg FestungsBahn and Hohensalzburg Fortress have always been a must for guests during any stay in Salzburg. On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the FestungsBahn, we wanted to make a contribution under the motto tradition meets modernity and offer easy access to art and culture here in Salzburg. Thanks to the temporary façade design, our summer guests can now marvel at the impressive work of one of the most popular German painters in this historic setting of the FestungsBahn.”
130 cards at 130 cents
On the occasion of the opening, Salzburg AG Tourismus invited the first 130 visitors to the 18.07. for a special price of 130 cents for a ride on the fortress railway and to marvel at the painting. The 64 square meter painting will adorn the building of the Salzburg FestungsBahn until August 17th. Visiting the work of art is free, the ride on the FestungsBahn itself costs EUR 13.30 (basic ticket including entry to Hohensalzburg Fortress).
All visitors have the opportunity to post the best photos with the painting on the channels of Salzburg AG Tourismus using the hashtag #FestungsBahnxLeonLoewentraut.
Win the picture-in-picture challenge
The presence of the work of art on the facade of the FestungsBahn is accompanied by a competition on social media: Attentive observers finally have the chance to win great prizes in a virtual scavenger hunt. In the “Picture-in-Picture Challenge” detailed shots of the Löwentraut painting have to be isolated. Salzburg AG Tourismus is giving away 5 x 2 5-Treasure tickets to visit the FestungsBahn, MönchsbergAufzug, Museum WasserSpiegel, SchafbergBahn and WolfgangseeSchifffahrt among all participants.
