President of the Mozambican Republic expresses “pain and concern” with fires in Portugal – Africa
The Mozambican President, Filip Nyusi, envied a message of solidarity with his Portuguese counterpart, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, expressing “deep pain and concern” over the wave of fires that devastate the European country, the Mozambican announced this fair.
“It is with a feeling of deep pain and concern that the events unfold in Portugal, which as a result of the intense heat that is felt at this time of year, lives are lost and more than 40 thousand hectares of forests, social housing and fires economic resources, including firefighting means, are being destroyed by the second fires”, refers a note released by the presidency this morning.
Filipe Nyusi praised the Portuguese people, the Government of António Costa and above all the civil authorities, firefighters and stakeholders, for the “tireless work that has made it possible to reduce the loss of other human lives and mitigate catastrophic materials, in this difficult and desolate time” .

Mainland Portugal passed this Sunday to an alert situation, the lowest level provided for in the Civil Protection Basic Law, after having been in a contingency situation for seven days (intermediate level between alert and calamity), due to the extreme risk of rural fire. and high temperatures.
The alert situation lasts until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, the day on which the situation will be reassessed.
Forest fires consume 43,721 hectares this year, around 30,000 of which since July 8, according to provisional data from the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF).
Since the 7th, the fires can cause one death (the pilot of a crashing aircraft), five serious injuries, 109 minor injuries and 95 people assisted.
Since the 8th, when the fires started to break out, 960 people have been evacuated from their homes and 431 have been sheltered in areas of concentration and support for the population, most of whom have already returned to their homes.
