“Patriotic Union”: Did Guterres come to Athens to promote what he included in his reports to the Security Council on the Cyprus issue?
In his recent two reports to the Security Council on the Cyprus issue, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres tried to equate the Republic of Cyprus with the pseudo-state, under the guise of the region of political equality, which was accepted as the authority for conducting the inter-community talks.
When the Turkish side openly declares that it is no longer debating, for a federation, but for two equal states, statements of this kind, on behalf of G. The UN Secretariat, come to advocate for changing the basis of the talks so far and the acceptance of talks leading to the recognition of two states.
This new basis for talks, requested by the Turkish side and supported behind the scenes by British diplomacy, is even presented as supposedly “compromising” in order to avoid the annexation of the occupied territories, which Turkish President Erdogan threatens to do, on the occasion of . 48th anniversary of the Turkish invasion on July 20.
Apparently, Guterres’ informal visit to Athens is aimed at securing the Greek Prime Minister’s support for plans of this kind for an alleged “solution” of the Cyprus issue. The Greek Government and the Greek Prime Minister should have denounced the scandalous behavior of Antonio Guterres and his representative in Cyprus Colin Stewart, as expressed in Guterres’ latest reports to the Security Council and in Colin Stewart’s statements in Nicosia. the impression that they are tolerating or colluding with Guterres’ new British-Inspired policy.
The policy of continuous retreats in order to complete the compromise “solution” led Kyriakos to a complete impasse and to an escalation of Turkish intransigence, which essentially needs today the de-recognition, through the UN, of the Republic of Cyprus and its explanation with the pseudo-crator.
As for the threatened annexation, Ankara is actually promoting it, de facto, by imposing its full control over all sectors and even subordinating the illegal Tymbu Airport to the Ankara Civil Aviation Authority.
Greece cannot follow a policy complementary to Ankara’s strategy in the Cyprus issue, with introspection, vain hopes and delusions. He must unyieldingly defend the international status of the Republic of Cyprus and restore the Cypriot state to the right basis, which is the essence of the problem, namely the Turkish invasion and occupation.
Diplomacy, always, unfortunately an accomplice and assistant of the Turkish Policy in the Cyprus issue, tries, under the guise of the UN, to change the basis of the talks, to launch through the UN the revelation of the Republic of Cyprus and to promote a “two and one” solution. of “equal” states. Greece has no reason to collude in this direction and to rush to solve the Cypriot problem, before the upcoming Presidential Elections in Cyprus, in February 2023.
