Since this path on the banks of the Orne, between Caen and Louvigny (Calvados), Sunday runners and walkers have a privileged view of the villas on stilts, which climb up the hillside at the entrance to Fleury-sur-Orne. This summer, that view becomes impossible.
“Ecological restoration”
From this Monday, July 18, 2022, a new worksite condemn access to this “track along the Orne”, starting from the meadow, under the viaduct of the Cavée. The City of Caen leads until the “month of September” the ” works development of the valley of the two O’s”.
What do they consist of? According to the municipality, it is a question of taking back the rows of poplars, invaded by mistletoe and ivy, in the process of withering. This “ecological restoration” will also make it possible to create “refuge areas for the otter”.
A detour for pedestrians via the greenway
The path along the Orne on its west bank is “closed to the public for security reasons”. The City of Caen is setting up a two-month diversion via the greenway.
It starts from the Joyeux Coureurs car park, goes around the Route de Louvigny and ends in the marshes of the bordering town of Caen.
In this sector of the Prairie, this site will be alongside other work this summer. Concrete pipes are laid at the foot of the railway, very close to the cycle path, the portion of which is also temporarily closed.
