CHRONICLE AND COMMENT
It ends with a beautiful match, the Under 16 European Championship of the San Marino national team. The biancazzurri beat Gibraltar 54-29 taking command of operations from start to finish, exceeding +30 by a lot and trying to do the right things throughout the match. Thick collective race, despite that of our boys, who struggle to face the commitment in the fifth competitive in six days, promising and always brilliant and always eager to do well. San Marino closes in 7th place.
The match. The first basket is from Gibraltar with Jose Daniel Cassaglia, but San Marino reacts immediately and overturns everything with four points in a row from Ronci. Bianchi is accurate from distance and the 13-7 of the 10 ‘tells of a good game by the titans. The defense even rises in tone in a second quarter in which the national team concedes just five points to the opponents. The attack gets points from many different protagonists, with Gasperoni and Botteghi on the shields and Miky Pagliarani with the left-handed support to the table for the 31-12 of the interval.
The advantage is substantial and the danger of reducing the concentration is there. The recovery, however, shows a San Marino anything but renouncing, but good at playing every possession to the fullest. Bianchi, Ronci and Gasperoni continue to score and on Berti’s basket at the end of the time the team finds itself on a flattering 49-18. The fourth set runs off quickly, with San Marino finding the maximum advantage at 54-20 with Longo’s basket. Gibraltar then gnaws a few points in the final, but the great match of the biancazzurri remains. A good way to close a European in which the boys have gained a lot of experience and have never lowered their heads even in difficulties.
