“Succession” will play in Norway – VG
“Succession”, one of the world’s largest TV series, has applied to record in Western Norway.
It reports Bergens Tidende, which refers to documents at the Norwegian Film Institute.
The HBO series has applied for funding from the state film incentive scheme to record in Western Norway. The scheme provides up to 25 percent reimbursement for large international film and series productions that are to be produced in whole or in part in Norway.
The series has 25 Emmy nominations, more than any other series during this year’s awards.
Will not comment
According to the newspaper, the Norwegian film service company Truenorth Norway has sent the application. The Norwegian company was responsible for the filming of “Mission: Impossible”, the James Bond film “No Time to Die”.
The company did not want to comment on the case to BT.
– We have no comments on the application, confirms Per Henry Borch in Truenorth to VG.
The application deadline is in November, so the “Succession” producers will not know until January if they will receive money, writes BT.
The recording of the fourth season started in New York a few weeks ago.
The series is an American satirical comedy of three seasons so far, where the action deals with the rich and dysfunctional Roy family, who lead a media empire.
The new “Mission: Impossible” film has also been filmed in Norway:
– Great cultural impact
Film critic and writer Einar Aarvig, who among other things writes for Rushprint and has the podcast «Live pictures», says it is great that Succession will record in Norway.
– It has a great cultural impact, and reviews and Emmy nominations are clear signs of quality, says Aarvig.
It is easy to think of the polling stations with dramatic western nature with mountain sides and fjords, such as “Dune” and “Mission: Impossible”. The former recorded at Stadlandet, among other places, while the latter had several recording days in Romsdalen and Sunnmøre.
Aarvig agrees that he also has his eyes open to other sides of the region.
– Maybe something from the oil or power industry? Or in captivating Stavanger surroundings? In such a business-driven series, there is definitely an opportunity, Aarvig speculates.
Dicethrow five
VG’s reviewer rolled dice roll five in the previous and third season this fall. Morten Ståle Nilsen, who had put seven of nine episodes before reviews, pointed out that there was some repetition.
– The third season is often crucial in modern TV series production, Nilsen writes.
– The characters established in the first round are perfected during the second, by screenwriters who are higher on self-confidence than they were to begin with.
