PISA – Watch out for the wolf? The situation between myth and reality: meeting with Professor Marco Apollonio
He is at home on the San Rossore estate, arrived alone moving from the territories and now stopped here because he has found a favorable habitat. Its presence helps to mitigate the excessive presence of fallow deer of which it is a natural antagonist. We are talking about the wolf (Canis lupus), which after the risk of extinction is now protected as a protected species. What behaviors to adopt to live with this species without it being dangerous for humans? What are the false myths that accompany the stories about the wolf and which instead the scientific reality? It will be discussed on Tuesday 19 July at 6.30 pm, at the garden of Villa Giraffa in Cascine Nuove in San Rossore, thanks to the meeting ‘Attenti al lupo? The situation between myth and reality ‘, included in the program of the ViviParco review. Talking about it Marco Apollonio, full professor at the University of Sassari and scholar of the situation of the wolf in the Park together with his team composed of doctors Bongi and Del Frate, the Park Guards, TGA and employees of the Authority who monitor the presence and habit of this species with 37 camera traps.
The ViviParco review is organized by the Park Authority with the Tuscany Region, with the contribution of the Pisa Foundation and the patronage of the Municipality of Pisa, and is held from 28 June to 31 July. The main location is the garden of Villa Giraffa in Cascine Nuove, a few steps from the boat dock and where the Tyrrhenian cycle path will pass before crossing with the Arno cycle path thanks to the future cycle and pedestrian bridge to San Piero. A place chosen both to promote green mobility and to enhance and make known a characteristic area of San Rossore. During all the events at the Giacomini center it is possible to visit the ‘Perturbamento’ exhibition with the works of the students of the Russoli Art School.
