Palio del Daino 18-21 August
A highly anticipated return in the summer of Valconca: it is that of the Palio del Daino, the famous event that will animate the historic center of Mondaino from 18 to 21 August next. After two years of forced stops due to the pandemic emergency, the organizing committee led by the Pro Loco di Mondaino (chaired by Fabrizio Ciotti) is working at full capacity to give the public what should be the edition of the ‘rebirth’. An edition that, on the one hand, looks at its roots as a popular festival (which took place continuously from 1988 to 2019), capable of compacting the entire Mondainese community, and on the other, looks to the future, with the aim of conveying and transmitting the passion also for the new generations. For this reason, an important renovation work has been carried out. A process represented by the birth of two new formations, entirely composed of young people from the Valconca area, who will be among the absolute protagonists of the event scheduled for August. The first is the Mons Damarum group of itinerant medieval musicians, followed by medieval music experts and coordinated by Maestro Michele Chiaretti: to train him a dozen boys of the MYO (Mondaino Young Orchestra) who will bring to the stage the tradition of medieval itinerant music through the rigorous use of period instruments, such as bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, lute, flutes, rebeca, drums and vielle. They will be joined by the Renaissance dance group Dulces Damae, directed by Donatella Nardi.
“The birth of these two new formations – explains the artistic director of communication Pierpaolo Saioni – is part of a very specific project, which aims to strengthen the bond between our young people and everything that revolves around the Palio del Daino. In over thirty years of activity, this event has been able to become an icon for the Valconca territory and for the entire province of Rimini. Behind the party, however, there is an inestimable heritage, made up of sharing, work, creativity, experience and professionalism. We would not want this legacy to be dispersed and in this way we intend to transmit the passion that has always animated us to the generations of tomorrow, thus creating a continuity between past and future “.
“Time returns” is the slogan chosen for the 2022 edition of the Palio, which will attract exhibitors and artists from all over Italy and also from abroad to Mondaino. The full program will be unveiled in the last few weeks. As always, there will be flag-wavers, armigers, falconers, jesters, figures, craft workshops, the culinary proposals of the districts, shows and live music. “It was not easy to restart the organizational machine behind the Palio del Daino, special after two years of pandemic – continues Saioni -. An event of this magnitude requires an unprecedented organizational effort, especially for a town like Mondaino which has 1,350 inhabitants. After a two-year break, however, the desire to roll up one’s sleeves is really great, as well as the enthusiasm and synergy between all those who contribute to the setting up. We want to convey to our visitors the impression that nothing has changed in the past two years. Guests will return to immerse themselves in the medieval atmosphere typical of the Palio, and it will be as if the emergency had never existed. In this way, we want a message of trust for the entire Valconca area. This will also be the common thread in the new presentation video of the Palio, which will be unveiled in the coming days and will become a viral promotion tool on social networks and the web ”.
