In the minds of many athletes, sport is related to competition and performance. However, sport is above all a physical activity allowing energy expenditure, whatever the level of practice. L’World Health Organization (WHO) recommends from the age of 18 the practice of at least 150 minutes of physical activity per week to combat sedentary lifestyle, the fourth risk factor for mortality in the world.
the sport health is increasingly promoted by doctors to include audiences far removed from this sport. In Calvados, the City of Caen and the Caen Athletics Club are major players in its development.
The City encourages the people of Caen to move
The City of Caen has a sports and health system intended to improve the health and well-being of its inhabitants. Health sport is often associated with sports practice by seniors, but it concerns a wider audience, such as people recovering from injury, illness or anyone wishing to resume physical activity.
The City of Caen relies on various structures in order to bring health sport closer to the people of Caen, such as Caen AC.
The City of Caen is developing health sports and Caen AC is building a bridge with the City, which sends the public to it for sessions with its sports educators.
At Caen AC, athletics declined in health sport
Caen AC declines health sport with the discipline of Nordic walking. The club offers a wide range of physical activities around its two weekly sessions devoted to health sports, such as muscle strengthening, circuit training, walking with and without poles, or athletic walking.
The goal is not to run a marathon but to maintain good health. In addition, there is a real group cohesion which is felt a lot at the end of each session, during the stretching phase.
Well-being is therefore physical, psychological and social, as recommended by the WHO.
Physical activity coordinated with the medical world
Health sport can be a solution for different types of people subject to different situations: long-term illness (with chemotherapy treatment, for example), diabetes, overweight, burnout, mental disorders, etc. A doctor can then recommend the practice of a sport especially with a prescription. In this case, the practice of a physical activity is done in an adapted way with supervision by professionals.
Sport health at Caen AC: Tuesday (9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) and Thursday (10 a.m. to 12 p.m.).
