City Hill Climb Salzburg: To the fortress – with up to 32 percent

07/16/2022 | (rsn) – At the Salzburg City Hill Climb On September 8th, Hohensalzburg Fortress will be the scene of one of the most spectacular bicycle races in Austria for the second time: the route from Kapitelplatz up to the fortress is only 900 meters long, but it has 120 meters in altitude, i.e. an average gradient of 15 percent, with a maximum of 32 percent (!).
“With the City Hill Climb we want
bring cycling closer to the spectators and the media through exciting competitions,” says organizer Gerhard Schönbacher: “In these city-mountain sprints, cyclists call for maximum performance over short distances. There’s additional excitement thanks to a competition mode that’s new to road cycling.”
In the elimination races, the fastest in each case qualify for the next round – “a tournament character that harbors the greatest excitement,” says Gerhard Schönbacher: “The entertainment and proximity to the athletes are a bonus for the audience who enjoy the race can be followed at different sections of the route.”
The event is open to professionals, amateurs
and amateur cyclists. Online registration is open until September 1st (see link below); Late registrations then until September 4th, plus 15 percent fee. The number of participants is limited to 296.
