On the theater side, the Avignon Festival, which is being held right now and until the end of the month. There is the official programming, the “in” and then also the “off”, which this year brings together 1,200 companies, to have to perform in Avignon is expensive. So some regions have set up a logistical boost.
The Avignon Festival (Vaucluse) is a bit of a meeting place for theater enthusiasts from all over France. A troupe from Nantes (Loire-Atlantique) is experiencing its first Avignon but it is already using professional techniques, as explained by Gabriel Um, choreographer of “Candide 1.6”: “Good sound, going to see people and in general it’s easier to move”. It is thanks to the support of their region, the Pays de la Loire, that they can perform at the Festival. She financed their theater. A godsend for a young troop.
Their pop-up theater is a college. Eight companies located in Sarthe, Mayenne or Vendée took the place of the students. The foyer is a fully equipped playhouse. With imagination and a few transformations, anything is possible to make a place look different. The study room is transformed in turn. The college playground has become a children’s circus. For this 2022 edition, the Region has spent 500,000 euros, in order to make itself attractive to the public.
