The occupiers are preparing referendums – Ukraine is asking the world to strengthen sanctions
The Central Election Commission declares inadmissibility conducting so-called referendums on temporarily occupied territories Donetsk region, Zaporozhye region, Luhansk region, Kharkiv region and Kherson region.
“All attempts of the Russian Federation to gain control over part of the territory of Ukraine are a gross violation of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine”– it is said in messages.
The CEC approved the statement and asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to convey its text to foreign state and international organizations. Ukraine calls on partners:
- condemn the attempts of the Russian Federation to hold a pseudo-referendum in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine;
- not to participate and not to contribute to their organization and conduct in any form;
- not to recognize any results of such “popular manifestations of will”;
- sanctions documents against citizens of the Russian Federation involved in the preparation and holding of pseudo-referendums;
- increase political and diplomatic pressure on the Russian Federation and send it clear signals about the inevitability of consequences for another attempt to seize Ukrainian territories.
The Commission also appealed to the Security Service of Ukraine and the SBU regarding the operational investigation of the prevention of the organization and holding of illegal referendums. The Commission urges all Ukrainians under occupation not to participate in pseudo-referendums.
The occupiers plan to hold “referendums” on September 11, synchronizing them with the only voting day in the Russian Federation. Local collaborators have repeatedly stated that pseudo-referendums will be held in the fall.
In Kherson Oblast, they continue to prepare the groundwork for a pseudo-referendum on possible accession to Russia. also, for this purpose, in the temporarily occupied territories of the region the occupiers are conducting a fake “social survey”.
