Defending champion Salzburg has cleared the first hurdle in the ÖFB Cup with a well-deserved 3-0 (1-0) victory over SV Fuegen, but only at the finish line. The outsider from the Regionalliga Tirol resisted for a long time on Friday in Zell am Ziller. Benjamin Sesko (19′), Junior Adamu (76′) and Ignace van der Brempt (83′) converted Salzburg’s superiority into goals.
Salzburg started in the Zillertal with two newcomers: Brazilian Fernando started in attack, Serbian Strahinja Pavlovic in central defence. The big favorite naturally determined the game, but the underdog missed the first good chance after a few minutes through Matteo Steiner. Goalkeeper Patrick Schiestl in particular defended himself with all his might. After a few saves, a mistake by the goalkeeper leveled Salzburg’s lead, Benjamin Sesko dusted off.
The lively but hapless Fernando stayed in the dressing room after the break, with Noah Okafor replacing Adeyemi’s replacement. Sekou Koita (for Kjaergaard) was also there. However, Fügen successfully manages to keep the result with a tight defensive bar. Only Adamu, who was also substituted on, made the preliminary decision after an ideal pass from Wöber, who was on the left flank. Right-back Van der Brempt following a corner kick agreement still after.
