Portugal’s imaginary future
On Wednesday we were able to watch the operational maneuvers of a last formation of Canadair planes. Over more than an hour, surprising, in an experimental and sophisticated rhythm, they invested against the slope of 4 against a front from Palmela to Setúbal de São Paulo. Just before 20:00, the planes ceased their activity and, in fact, the night was quiet. Ensure that without this intervention, the fire would have spread its action, at least to the periphery of the urban fabric of Setúbal, with all the relevant consequences that first of all.
This fate and protection to be chosen to be chosen for the summer, which does not promise success to the saviors and replicated to this fate. But this failure should make us judge the shortcomings of the general firefighting strategy. Five years after the hell of June and October 2017, the government’s choices in this regard remain essentially end-of-the-line. All projects attack as promises as deep roots of space transformation can be considered as internal threats to the security of rural people and goods can be considered as specialists, but without material means, nor will to materialize. The Third Republic intensified what the New State in its twilight phase had already begun to welcome: the disorderly occupation by monocultures with market value in rural areas abandoned by the massive exodus from the countryside to the city and for emigration. But democracy did more than that. Unconditionally embracing the mercantile creed, Portugal is today the European country where it has a direct presence in the rural world, liquidating the protection of forests, also consolidating the position of sad region of the burned area in the Old Continent.
Portugal is today the European country where the State has most resigned from its direct presence in the rural world, liquidating old institutions for the protection and protection of forests (…).
Rural fires are also a metaphor for the difference between the harsh reality that awaits us and the delirious vision of the future of the partisan and economic elites that run the country. The “case” of Minister Pedro Nuno Santos, after all, was just an error of communication and not of substance. Everything leans towards an airport solution, technically reckless and environmentally destructive. The minister disseminates the ability that the problems of pre-fallacy need at Lisbon airport, disregarding the universal explanation, felt in many other airports, amid a conjunctural peak in the demand for the lack of human resources resulting from the pandemic. In the future, which cannot happen a future system, in which it can no longer count on a predictable probability of return, a new airport will be more an ecological hope, whereas a new airport will once again be a surprise. In fact, in 2022 we acquire one more certainty. The Ukrainian war, and above all the absurd response, fueled a senile race for fossil fossils. The promise of carbon neutrality has become a smokescreen that hides either ignorant naivety or instrumental cynicism. In the next two years of perfect storm where we are heading, we will see what survives from the EU. The brutal devaluation of the euro is the prelude to a convulsion that almost everything in question. Our territory is our last and unquestionable defensive line. Public policies are slow to recognize it.
