Portugal with 16 athletes from three specialties at the European Swimming Championships in Rome – Observer
Portugal will be in the Europeans for nothing, In Romeof August 11, by 10 elements in pure swimming, four in open water and a duet in art, communicated this Friday to the Portuguese Swimming Federation (FPN).
Ana Catarina Monteiro (CF Vilacondense) will compete in the 100 and 200 meters mariposa, Ana Rodrigues (ED Viana) in the 50 and 100 meters breaststroke, Camila Rebelo (A. Louzan Natação) in the 50, 100 and 200 meters backstroke, Diana Durães (Benfica ) and Tamila Holub (Sporting Braga) in the 800 and 1,500 meters freestyle, and Rafaela Azevedo (Algés and Dafundo) in the 50 and 100 meters backstroke.
Also in pure swimming, which takes place between August 11 and 17, Diogo Matos Ribeiro (Benfica) will do the 50 and 100 meters freestyle and 50 and 100 meters mariposa, Francisco Santos (Sporting) and João Costa (Vitória Guimarães) will do the 50, 100 and 200 meters backstroke, and Gabriel José Lopes (A. Louzan Swimming) at 200 meters breaststroke and 200 meters styles.
The competitions take place at the Foro Itálico, which in 1994 and 2009 were hosted by the World Cups, and which now hosts an event that will feature with around 1,500 athletes from 52 countries to compete in various specialties.
Cheila Vieira and Maria Gonçalves, both Gesloures, constituted Portugal’s absolute duet in artistic swimming, which took place between the 11th and 15th of August.
In the open waters, between the 17th and 21st of the same month, Tiago Campos (CN Rio Maior), Diogo Cardoso (Sporting), Angélica André (FC Porto) and Mafalda Rosa (CN Rio Maior) were called up.
In this case, the country will take place at Lido di Ostia, considered the Sea of Rome, 30 kilometers from the city center, which has already hosted the World Cups in 2009.
