Another Mercadona store has already opened in Portugal — it is the second in the district of Setúbal
The Spanish chain continues its expansion process in the country. Soon you will get closer to Lisbon.
After arriving in the city of Setúbal at the end of June, Mercadona opened another supermarket in this district on the South Bank of the Tagus. The Montijo store opened this Friday, July 15th. By the end of the delivery date, five more inaugurations in the country. There are still no data for the opening in Oeiras, but the Santarém space will be the next to open.
Montijo’s store is on Rua do Laboratório, in an area where there are already other commercial areas, such as the Alegro shopping center and the Retail Park. The new Mercadona covers an area of 1,900 square meters, has created 65 jobs and has 190 parking spaces.
The supermarket structure is closer to the chain that already exist in Portugal. It includes butchers, bakeries, pastries, fishmongers, fruits and vegetables. There is also an area with sushi, another with freshly cut ham and a machine for making orange juice.. In the ready-to-eat section, more than 40 dishes are always available.
Surpluses from the Montijo store will be made into products for the Caminho Bem Fazer Association. This delivery of items that are not sold in the store is part of Mercadona’s liability policy.
The new space of the Spanish chain is the 34th in the country. Until December, five more stores of the brand will arrive in Portugal. The next opening is in Santarém, at Santarém Retail Park, on August 2nd.
Leiria, Santa Maria da Feira, Caldas da Rainha and Oeiras are other openings planned for 2022. With these openings, 650 jobs will be created. The prospective retailer, at the end of the year, 39 supermarkets in Portugal.
Mercadona is also already planning for openings in 2023. Marco de Canaveses, Lousada, Gondomar, Oliveira de Azeméis and Figueira da Foz are some of the locations announced.
