Operations fight about 50 fires in Portugal
11 fires are currently ongoing, with fires in the districts of Leira, Faro and Viseu raising the most concerns. Fires in Ourém are being resolved.
In Viseu, the fire in Mangualde started at 2:05 am, in a forested area in Vila Mendo de Tavares, in the parish of Abrunhosa-a-Velha. According to information on the Civil Protection website, at 10:10 am there were no 113 operational locations, supported by 32 vehicles and six air assets.
In Faro, a fire started in an area of Mato in Gambelas, at 23:30 yesterday, close to the place where the Faro Motorcycle Concentration camp is located. More than 220 firefighters are on the ground with 83 ground assets and four air assets.
In Leiria, two major fires continue to worry firefighters. The fireworks started yesterday afternoon. In the locality of Caranguejeira, the fire is fought by 340 operatives, 103 vehicles and two aerial assets. In Pombal, in the town of Vale da Pia, 425 operations are on the ground supported by 114 vehicles.
In Ourém, in the operational phase, the fires are still being resolved. The firefighters now prevent further re-entries that took a lot of work yesterday, especially in Alvaiázere, in the district of Leiria.
More than 1300 operatives are fighting the 11 fires currently underway. According to information from the Civil Protection, 50 fires are active in the country, including fires in progress, in the phase of resolution and in conclusion.
