Emilia-Romagna aims at 80% separate waste collection
80% separate waste collection, 66% recycling and stop planning new landfills for unsorted municipal waste. These are the objectives of the Regional waste management plan and for the reclamation of polluted areas 2022-2027 approved by the Legislative Assembly of Emilia-Romagna. “A journey that lasted about a year, full of ideas and insights – explained the Councilor for the Environment Irene Priolo – in which, from the beginning, the signatories of the Pact for Labor and Climate were involved, as well as the ‘Territory, Environment and Mobility’ Commission and the entire Assembly Hall. But we do not stop here – continued Priolo – now a season of intense activity is beginning which will see the involvement of the whole regional society, because only in this way will we be able to achieve the results we have set for ourselves. “Among the objectives set, first among all, the achievement of 80% of separate waste collection by 2025.
This is accompanied by one specific strategy on plastics, on the reduction of food waste and on the increase of recycling. Real challenge the management of special waste, where the prevention of production will be combined with a 10% reduction in the quantities sent to landfills and interventions to ensure regional self-sufficiency in disposal. For the first time, the waste plan also includes reclamation of polluted areas, to return them to communities with new uses and even land consumption. And on this there are over 32 million available for orphan sites and another 17 million for Sin di Fidenza. Finally, the circular economy will be an important lever to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, in this regard the Region can count on funds for 43 million dedicated to its promotion, in addition to other resources to the management of the waste cycle and plant engineering, still destined for delivery by the Ministry.
