Compared to the first six months of 2021, air travel increased by 520 percent, or sixfold.
The Finnish aviation industry recovered well in the first half of this year, estimates the national airport operator Finavian.
In January-June, approximately 6.6 million passengers traveled through Finnish airports, the company said in its statement on Tuesday.
Compared to the first six months of 2021, the growth was 520 percent, or sixfold.
Fewer layovers
Finavia stated that the number of stopover passengers at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport was still relatively small compared to other European airports. This was largely due to the fact that Finnair’s flights to Asia had sharply decreased Closure of Russian airspace.
Still, of all the airports in Finland, Helsinki-Vantaa Airport served the majority of passengers during the first six months of the year, and 5.5 million passengers used the air, which is 579 percent more than a year earlier.
Finavia pointed out in its announcement at the end of last month that the travel season will continue to be busy in July and recommended passengers to reserve more time before their flights.
The company stated that Helsinki-Vantaa’s passenger numbers are at their peak in the mornings from 5-8 am and in the afternoons from 2-6 pm, and congestion is possible especially on Sundays.
