Murder of a woman at a political event in Sweden was now classified as a right-wing extremist terrorist attack
STOCKHOLM – The murder of a woman at an annual political event in Sweden earlier this month is now being investigated as an act of terrorism, the authorities state.
The Swedish National Security Agency, known by the abbreviation SAPO, said that the 32-year-old man who is in custody for the knife attack on July 6 is now suspected of “terrorist crimes through murder”, which means that SAPO has now taken over the investigation.
The agency’s spokesman Gabriel Wernstedt told SVT on Monday that “information has come to light that has led to the new suspicions.” Wernstedt declined to give further details.
The suspect, identified by Swedish media as Theodor Engström, was arrested on the spot and has confessed to the murder. SVT reported that he has connections to the neo-Nazi group NMR, the Nordic resistance movement.
The victim, 64-year-old Ing-Marie Wiselgren, was a doctor and psychiatric coordinator for Sweden’s municipalities and regions.
There is no other suspect in the case, SAPO said on Monday.
It is said that the NMR member Nazi was arrested for yesterday murdering Ing-Marie Wieselgren at Sweden’s only major political event, by stabbing her in the throat, according to a witness.
Was there as a psychiatric coordinator for county & municipality org.

Almedalen Week is an annual event in which leading politicians from various parties, lobbyists, pressure groups and the interested public participate. It takes place in and around Almedalen, a park in Visby, Gotland’s capital, and has debates that are more informal than those of the Riksdag.
