Park & Ride moderately used, old town garage cheaper

The Park & Ride area at the Salzburg exhibition center for day visitors, including the old town shuttle to the center, was used moderately on Monday. With one possible reason: The Park&Ride tickets are more expensive than parking spaces in the Salzburg Mönchsberg garage.
After the end of the Mönchsberg garage, the Park&Ride facilities in the state capital are back in focus. The offer at the exhibition center is best developed: with its own old town shuttle bus including a combination ticket.
Park&Ride guests satisfied with the offer
However, the rush to the Park&Ride car park at the exhibition center was limited on Monday morning. However, the few tourists who parked here are satisfied with the shuttle bus service: “We informed ourselves beforehand. I think the offer is great because you can park here for free – at least in July and August – and then take the shuttle into town,” said a holidaymaker from Lower Austria. “This means you can travel worry-free.” For an Upper Austrian guest it was clear: “With four people in the car, it was simply the best option to park here and use the Park&Ride offer.”
Looking for a parking space in the city center was not an alternative for these tourists: “Outside the city – otherwise it is too difficult to find a parking space,” said a holidaymaker from France. “Going into town wasn’t an option. We know that from Vienna with the short-term parking zones,” said the Lower Austrian tourist with certainty. “I know: Salzburg is always congested. therefore: no. We knew: We’ll stop outside and drive comfortably into the city.” And a vacationer from North Rhine-Westphalia added: “Because we heard that it’s difficult to park in Salzburg, we thought it was good and cheap. We were able to park well here and have a nice day.”
Park & Ride offer moderately used
imbalance in parking prices
But the Park & Ride users should have been in the minority on Monday. Because while the shuttle bus drove half full to Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz in the city center, the flow of tourists by car towards Mönchsberggarage was much more lively.
The cost could also be a factor: an old town shuttle ticket including free parking at the exhibition center costs three euros for adults and two euros for children. If you park for four hours in the old town garage, you pay four euros. For eight hours, six euros are due. The prerequisite is that the parking card has been punched in the participating shops and restaurants in the old town. This imbalance has meanwhile also been recognized as a problem by city politicians. However, it is still completely open how quickly Park&Ride prices will drop.
