Flames prospects Topi Ronni (Finland) and William Stromgren (Sweden) invited to World Junior Camps – Flamesnation
A pair of Calgary Flames prospects have been invited to national team camps for the next two junior World Cup tournaments. William Stromgren will compete for a place in Sweden’s 2023 team, while Topi Ronni will try out for Finland’s 2022 team.
Stromgren, 19, was a selection of the second round of the Flames in the 2021 NHL Draft. He shared last season between Rogle BK’s SHL and J20 National teams. He will be one of 46 players gathered in Enkoping, Sweden from July 24-49 to compete for roster places in the 2023 tournament, which takes place during the winter holidays in Halifax and Moncton. (Sweden will of course not name their team after the camp in July, but they will probably put in players and find out where everyone stands before naming the team at the end of November.)
Ronni, 18, was a selection of the second round of the Flames in the 2022 NHL draft. He shared last season between Tappara’s Liiga and SM-sarja teams, as well as short loans to HPK (in Liiga) and KeuPa HT (in Mestis). He will be part of two Finnish teams – a primary team and a “challenger team” – which will compete at the camp in Vierumaki, Finland in July. (The Finnish federation did not include dates in its announcement.) The team named after this event will compete in the 2022 World Juniors in Edmonton in August, the tournament postponed from the 2021-22 winter break due to the pandemic.
Other Flames prospects previously announced as invited to camp include Matt Coronato (who is vying for a spot on the U.S. Hockey 2022 team) and Jack Beck (vying for a spot on Canada’s 2023 team).
