Cologne – situation remains tense: lifeguards need new colleagues | Regional
Cologne – Summer heat in our region. Often the only way to cool down is to jump into the fresh water. The fact that the outdoor pools in Cologne are open is also due to people like Felix Meier. The 25-year-old is currently keeping order in the stadium pool. The KölnBäder are still urgently looking for people to support Meier & Co.
The young lifeguard can only recommend the job: “It’s a very varied job,” says Meier. “We are not only at the pool, we are also jointly responsible for the maintenance and repairs of the systems. There is also a lot of technology involved. And in our free time we are allowed to use all the facilities of the KölnBäder, including the saunas.”
Meier completed an apprenticeship in Paderborn to become a “Specialist for Pool Companies”. He then moved to Cologne because of love, and found a job at the Cologne baths.
His own mother was his professional role model. “She did the job in Paderborn. When I was a kid, I used to love going to the bathroom. I liked what she did,” he says.
Anyone who is already interested in the job in the current season can contact the KölnBädern. In addition to the DLRG silver, a valid first-aid certificate is a prerequisite for service at the pool.
