At San Marino De Antoni, second, changes pace
A faded victory in the final, penalized by the dust of those who preceded him, but the driver from Camposampiero is official one of the candidates for the title of the CIAR Junior.
Felino (PR), 11 July 2022 – The icing on the cake has not arrived, not through his fault, but when demonstrated by Edoardo De Antoni at his second absolute appearance on earth, the recent San Marino Rally, rightly projects him into the shortlist of contenders to the title in an Italian Junior Rally Championship which is becoming more and more exciting and stimulating for him.
The driver from Camposampiero, flanked by Martina Musiari in the Renault Clio Rally 5, displaced everyone by signing the “Terra di San Marino” power stage, opening test of the single day of competition.
Once the first lap on Saturday was archived, the driver of Collecchio Corse commanded the operations with 8 “1 on Nicelli and 8” 2 on Zanin, continuing to score interesting partial which allowed him to manage the leadership but to present himself, after the sixth, with a margin narrow.
At “Macerata Feltria”, seventh time trial scheduled, De Antoni’s treasure was reduced to just over two seconds but the next “Belforte all’Isauro”, with the stopwatch marking the second time, at 7 ”7, and overtaking at the top.
With 5 “6 to recover from Nicelli and only one cartridge to fire, the young forward from Felino’s team did not want to give up but, despite placing his signature on the last” Terra di San Marino “, he managed to gnaw at a little less than his opponent two seconds, not enough to fill a gap which, on balance, has relegated him to second place with a deficit of only 3 ”8.
“We are really happy with our result” – says De Antoni – “because it is enough in your head to want to change pace, here at San Marino, and we succeeded. Being the race that closed the first half of the CIAR Junior, we couldn’t be conservative. We wanted to be among the first and so it was, right from the shakedown. We started well, winning the power stage, and we started to manage, so to speak, the top of the standings. We succeeded until the penultimate test where, inexplicably, they gave us back divided by class, always in order of classification. Starting first we took a competitor in front of us, from the N4, and in the last three kilometers I saw nothing, in the middle of the rising dust. We took those seven seconds that we could no longer recover. There remains a bitter taste in the mouth for having lost the first victory but we were not to blame. Now head to Rome. We want to leave well loaded to remain in the group of the first. Thanks to all the partners, to Collecchio Corse, to ACI Sport, which supports us with high-level professionals, and to my family who was present here in San Marino. It was nice to celebrate with dad, who was present here as the winner of this race.
The second place in the CIAR Junior, combined with that in the RC5N group and in the Rally 5 class, places De Antoni at the foot of the podium in the provisional classification, just eleven points from the top.
The excellent result, combined with the double value that also brought the protagonists of the Italian Rally Terrain Championship to the field, allows the standard-bearer of the Parma association to look at everyone from above, albeit in cohabitation with Zanin, in the Under 25 classification, Trofeo Pucci Grossi , while in the tricolor series on gravel, reserved for Rally 5 class cars and annexes, the Italian is in second place, together with Casella and Zanin, less than ten from the leader Nicelli.
