Alstom’s Trápaga facility in Spain for propulsion of Sweden’s new Zefiro Express high-speed train
Alstom was awarded the contract for the delivery of 25 Zefiro Express electric high-speed trains with an additional option for 15 extra trains by SJ. The contract is worth approximately EUR 650 million and the first of the trains will be delivered in 2026.
The impressive high-speed trains will be Sweden’s fastest ever with the ability to run at maximum speeds of 250 km / h.
The Zefiro Express trains have been designed to run in severe weather conditions, including when temperatures are as low as -40 ° C, making the train’s innovative technology enabling passengers to enjoy safe and comfortable travel.
Carriages on the train will have flat and ramp-free floors that support the accessibility of passengers getting on, off and moving through the train.

The state-of-the-art Zefiro Express trains are part of Alstom’s Avelia family and have a capacity of 363 seats with carriage widths, electrical systems and signal systems developed so that the trains can be run in both Sweden and Denmark with certification for traffic in Norway.
Alstom’s Spanish factory has 200 employees and monitors the design, handling and delivery of propulsion and electrical traction systems for all types of railway applications in all power areas such as main line rolling stock reaction systems including locomotives, high speed, long distance, regional and commuter trains and urban transport such as metro, monorail and trams.
Alstom recently won a contract to deliver 40 new Flexity M34 trams to Gothenburg in Sweden in an order of 100 million euros.
Zefiro Express is the largest offer on the market and covers maximum speeds of between 200 km / h and 350 km / h. The trains have a variety of configurations and architectures to give a customer the best possible fit for their needs, including single-deck, double-deck, concentrated or distributed reactions, articulated or non-articulated architecture, and options such as tilting capability.
About 3,000 high-speed trains or many high-speed trains have been sold worldwide over the past 40 years by Alstom.
