a vast unprecedented anti-narcotics operation in Marseille
An unprecedented operation was held for three days in Marseille to fight against drug trafficking. 30 Marseille cities have been targeted by this system.
“A shelling on a very large scale”: these are the words of the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, to describe this Monday the vast anti-narcotics operation which will take place the last week in Marseille.
For three days, an “unprecedented experiment in France” was carried out, in the words of the police chief of Bouches-du-Rhône, Frédérique Camilleri, concerning this operation which was revealed by our colleagues from Europe 1.
45 operations in three days
550 reinforcements of CRS and mobile gendarmes were deployed to carry out 45 operations in 30 Marseille cities. “Usually, two units of mobile forces are granted permanently to the Marseille city”, specify our colleagues.
In total, 3,000 people were checked by the police and 29 arrested at the end of these three days. Still according to information from Europe 1, “several kilos of cannabis were seized as well as nine stolen vehicles discovered”.
Last year, more than 2,000 people were arrested for drug trafficking in the Bouches-du-Rhône, according to the report released last February by the police chief.
Upon her arrival in December 2020 in the Marseille city, the prefect of Bouches-du-Rhône had made the fight against drug trafficking one of her priorities. Beyond the traffickers, the police also target drug users with a thousand fines issued each month in the department.
