It’s not just in Portugal: in Spain, thermometers can reach 42 degrees and there is an extreme risk of fire
In view of the meteorological indications, civil protection put at extreme and very high risk of forest fires in several of the border regions of Portugal
The Spanish authorities put this Sunday on the island of Gran Canaria under a red warning and parts of the rest of the country in orange due to the heat, which also led to alerts for the extreme or very high risk of fires.
Like Portugal, hot Spain will face a temperature above 40 degrees, and weather conditions of Celsius situation for the outbreak of fires, which have already hit Galicia on Saturday.
The most serious African was maximum in the agency of previla of Gran Canaria, with a notice of 41º C in that island of the Canaries, next to the coast of 41º C in that island of the archipelago of Madeira.
In the peninsular region, the maximum temperature predicted is 42º in Badajoz, near the border with Portugal.
Oranges because of the heat are in effect this Sunday in the regions of Andalusia, Castile-La Mancha, Estremadura, Galicia, the Community of Madrid and some Canary Islands.
In yellow are Aragon, Castile and Leon, Catalonia, the Community of Navarra, La Rioja and parts of the Canary Islands.

What explains these high temperatures?
According to Aemet, often cited by the Spanish press, the heat is the consequence of an “extensive Atlantic anticyclone centered in the southwest of the powerful islands”, with a consequence of stationary air.
From Monday, a depression located in the west of the Iberian Peninsula should move a mass of very hot from the African continent, which could cause a rise in temperatures in Portugal and Spain.
In view of the increased risk of fires, the Portuguese Government declared a contingency situation on Monday and Friday.
The increase in that risk led the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the Minister, António Costa, to cancel trips to the United States and Mozambique, respectively, to monitor the fire situation in Portugal.
