ASFINAG supports security services and the police
Traffic
With the start of the holidays in western Austria and parts of the Netherlands, the second wave of travel this summer is now rolling south through Salzburg. Because traffic jams are expected again on the transit routes, exit barriers are in place to keep town centers free of alternative traffic, this year for the first time with the support of ASFINAG control bodies.
In Salzburg, the A1 western autobahn on the Walserberg (Flachgau) and the A10 Tauern autobahn are traditionally the most affected. Waiting times are also to be expected at the St. Michael (Lungau) toll station. The exit barriers have been in effect again this year since Thursday, which are intended to ensure that there are no traffic jams in the town centers caused by evasive holidaymakers. From now on, employees of the ASFINAG motorway company will support the state’s inspectors.
Four ASFINAG control teams on duty with immediate effect
The closures apply to all junctions every weekend until September 11th. Until now, controlling them has been the sole task of the police and a private security service. The state and ASFINAG have now agreed that the supervisory bodies of the motorway operator will provide support at the junctions. Eight employees, ie up to four teams, are involved. ASFINAG also uses employees from other federal states in Salzburg and uses overhead display boards to inform travelers about the exit barriers and the current traffic jam situation.
Land will effectively close off-roads
The exit barriers apply to transit traffic from Thursday 6:00 a.m. to Sunday 10:00 p.m. in order to prevent holidaymakers from also looking for shortcuts out of the motorway jam and blocking the neighboring communities.
