San Marino and the Association Agreement with the European Union, Secretary Beccari: “Now an intense phase awaits us, but the goal is near”
The traditional press conference of the State Congress was held today in San Marino.
They intervened today to speak to reporters on state secretary for foreign affairs, Luca Beccariand the State Secretary for Labor, Teodoro Lonfernini.
The issues treated with particular attention by the two members of the government, during the meeting with the press, were the Association Agreement with the European Union; the Igr, pensions and labor reforms; the energy crisis and the spread of Covid-19 on the Titan.
EU ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT – Beccari said: “A meeting was held in Brussels in recent days to take stock of the continuation of the negotiations: we registered an important desire on the part of the European Commission to organize the next 18 months with a view to defining a text that could be the one on which you express your opinion for the purpose of signing and concluding the Association Agreement with the European Union. Agreement based on identity and the will to expand the common European market to San Marino, Andorra and Monaco, three enclaves already integrated in different ways in the European Union. A more political and less technical approach was needed to give impetus to the negotiations, in the end we found confirmation in this. The game enters an intense phase, even more complicated from the point of view of our work, but we see the goal we have in front of us much closer. For this reason we have decided to devote an important moment of the July Council to the Association Agreement with the European Union. International activity will resume at the end of September, at the latest in early October, so in these months we will work to stimulate the internal political debate in San Marino, also involving trade associations “.
REFORMS, ENERGY CRISIS AND COVID-19 – Lonfernini stated: “To those who have raised the fact that we have a somewhat sparse Council session from the point of view of the points on the agenda, we reply that it is a strategy we wanted: it is absolutely essential to include the secretary’s reference in the next session of the Council Beccari on the Association Agreement with the European Union. It is true that laws are important, but it is also true that everything, including reforms on Igr, pensions and work, is part of the process of association with the EU. Regarding the reforms, the texts will be deposited very soon at the end of the ongoing discussions with the trade unions and trade associations. Furthermore, we are following very closely the evolution that the European area is undergoing in terms of procurement. San Marino has already done a very good job, but it must continue to do it because the times that will be are very uncertain. In fact, we are working in terms of financial coverage and the supply of gas, electricity and water. On the spread of Covid-19 in San Marino, on the other hand, there are many active cases, but all are domiciled; the hospital situation is under control ”.
