Head of Tachyum: Slovakia is on the way to its own supercomputer
Watch Disrupter so you don’t miss anything from the business world:
Even if you feel that you do not understand IT, you should definitely remember the name Radoslav Danilák. The entrepreneur, innovator and hardware architect has 200 patents to his credit, he has successfully founded two important IT companies, the latest one, Tachyum, wants to bring a breakthrough chip to the market.
It is said to be significantly more powerful than competing chips and universal. It will be used by supercomputers, data centers and fighter jets. In addition, Slovakia could Per the most powerful computer in the worldun. A native of Slovakia left for business in the United States. We also talked with him about how to keep talented people in Slovakia.
At Disrupter, we present inspiring entrepreneurs and their companies that have the potential to change the world. In order for us to continue doing this, we need your support. Join the Refresher+ Club and get unlimited access to an exclusive article.
The Prodigy processor chip is said to be revolutionary. Could you explain what makes it special?
Today, different chips are used for different purposes. for example, they optimize the loading of web pages for you, others are in supercomputers, airplanes, artificial intelligence or in data centers. During the day, these chips are used. But in the evenings, when people are sleeping and not Netflixing or on, computers with CPUs shut down to save power on Facebook.
a few such very expensive machines in which the chips work are less than 40 percent. AI chips are only 6 percent used, as the machines they operate cannot be used for other things. The rest of the time is just taking up space.
Our processor can be used for all purposes. You can run all the processes mentioned above on it during the day and you don’t have to turn it off at all. You can work with a much higher capacity that can be used or leased to someone else.
As humanity, we must learn more with less. There are 300 IT devices in use in the world, with an average utilization of around 35 percent. A universal chip will be a huge benefit.
We’ve already mentioned Facebook as one potential customer. Who are the next?
They are big companies like Google, Microsoft and also telecommunication services. For example, they use chips to reduce the amount of data when surfing on a mobile phone, so that the content is loaded faster and more efficiently. 5G technology will bring the ability to transfer ten times more data than before. Creating demand for more services and our chip is suitable for. Then there are the issues of national security or supercomputing uses.
Can you use the chip even in a military conflict?
Today, the chips are already used in autonomous drones that are located at a distance or hypersonic weapons. They are faster. The time required for the reaction is significantly reduced. We are getting into the territory where until a person understands what is happening, he does not have time to react. Therefore, more and more defense systems are switching to independent systems.
In the coming years, a new generation of aircraft and fighters will arrive. They are so powerful and fast that during maneuvers and changes in flight direction, they reach such speeds that a human would not survive. That’s why they are unmanned.
We have a partner who is working on the development of new fighters. In order for artificial intelligence in various machines to work effectively, I have to train somewhere. Tesla has a Dojo supercomputer with a performance of 2 exaflops (2 quadrillion operations per second – editor’s note). However, the autonomous flight system in the fighter needs 40 times more power. We would like to build a supercomputer in Slovakia, the performance of which will be 128 exaflops.
Our partner from the USA is very interested in using it. Thanks to this, Slovakia would essentially be the main partner in the development of a new generation of American military fighters. However, he must create a suitable ecosystem for it.
