Damiano Tommasi | Giunta | Meeting with the prefect Cafagna
The mayor of Verona Damiano Tommasi is alternating institutional visits with operational meetings for the constitution of the next city council. The names circulating are different and some could be confirmed today, July 8, in the face to face between the first and the representatives of his coalition. And also today the convocations of the first city council of Verona could be sent, which could therefore meet by next 18 July.
Meanwhile, yesterday, Tommasi took part in the meeting with the prefect of Verona Donato Cafagna. And with him were also present the other mayors elected in the Verona area last month. After the usual exchange of greetings, the prefect underlined the importance of collaboration between institutions to better address the various issues related to the city and provincial communities.
«The one with the newly elected or confirmed mayors will be one of the networks that we will have to build and implement – commented Tommasi – It will certainly be one of my responsibilities as mayor of the provincial capital. We feel that there is a need for dialogue, exchange of good practices and values, actions that will do everyone good. There are many ambitions and issues to be addressed, such as transport, tourism, businesses and displaced production activities, which at the moment are also facing problems such as drought. We must all together act as a safety net to manage critical issues. And as the Municipality of Verona we must take care of the territory and represent it on a national level ».
But Damiano Tommasi must also weave another network, that of the council of Verona. Only rumors leaked from Palazzo Barbieri that could be confirmed or denied today, in the confrontation between the mayor and the majority political forces.
Together with Tommasi, the council must have ten councilors, five men and five women. And a woman could be given the post of deputy mayor. A position that could be held by Alessia Rotta if she however renounces her current role as deputy in Parliament. Other councilors of the Democratic Party, such as Alessia Rotta, could be Federico Benini and Elisa La Paglia. Less likely, however, an additional promotion for Elisa Dalle Pezze, while Stefano Vallani could have the road paved for the presidency of the municipal council. Elected on the list Tommasi Mayor, Italo Sandrini could go directly from the city council to the junta. And the same could also happen for Tommaso Ferrari of Traguardi and for Michele Bertucco of In Comune per Verona. In addition to these, finally, other names circulate for the role of evaluator and the most suggestive is that of the Olympic champion Sara Simeoni. In the Veronese council there could therefore be two former professionals of the highest level, even if the name of Simeoni does not seem to be the first in Tommasi’s list.
