New in Salzburg: KAVA coffee roastery in Griesgasse
Tasty import from Germany
Simon and Daniela are together and from Germany. It was there that they discovered their great passion for coffee roasting. And how you do it, from just one coffee house Roastery with four cafés in Germany and Austria conjured. Whereby: It was a bit more work than mere magic.
Have a look at the Instagram account from kava. There’s always information about the coffee itself and what’s going on.
“We’re not actually restaurateurs, our cafés are a means to an end,” says Simon. The purpose: To show the coffee drinkers out there what kind of product they can have in their cup. The core aspect at KAVA is the roasting itself. In Daniela and Simon’s first café in Traunstein (that’s where their career started), they have already tried out roasting. Then Simon got his way into the matter and now makes coffee that customers in town and country like.
But wait: how does the perfect coffee taste?
You can’t put it that way, says Simon. Coffee has so many idiosyncrasies, from where it’s sourced to where it’s roasted. And then it also depends on the taste of the customers. The classic South German or Austrian coffee fan prefers darker coffee, a bit flatter, nutty or chocolatey. In big cities you often like it floral. The differences are also reflected in the way they are prepared. In big cities people drink a lot of filter coffee, something that is rarely in demand in their shops in Traunstein, Chieming or Rosenheim.
If you want to work at KAVA, you can apply. Just write on Instagram or conventionally via email or phone.
But now we want to know: Does Salzburg drink coffee like in the big city?
Salzburg has definitely discovered filter coffee for itself. English is also widely spoken in Salzburg. “Every second person who comes in orders in English,” says Daniela. The KAVA in Griesgasse has been open for a good month now – and offers a lot of good things. coffee, of course, to buy in the bean or ground (will be done directly on site), in the cup, prepared as filter coffee or cappuccino or whatever else you wish for.
What else is there at KAVA?
Extended lunches are not available at KAVA. But lovely little treats with coffee like croissants, muffins, muesli and stuff like that. Ah – and if you like the cups you drink your coffee from, you can buy those too.

Sneaky advertising, no thanks!
We never accept money for our editorial reporting. There is advertising at Fräulein, but rarely. When we advertise, it is also clearly stated in the title and not hidden somewhere – it is important to us that you know: This article just came about that way and we are happy when people come to Salzburg and have a nice time with us. Keep it up, you kava-ists.
