President, Prime Minister extends condolences over Oslo shooting News
The massacre took place outside a popular gay bar in central Oslo.
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and the Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) have expressed shock on Twitter after a mass shootout in a neighboring Norwegian capital on Saturday.
Two people were killed and 21 wounded in a gunfire early Saturday morning. The event was held outside the popular LGBTQ + bar in central Oslo. The city’s annual Pride procession was scheduled to be held on Saturday, but was canceled under police direction.
A 42-year-old Norwegian man has been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and acts of terrorism. Norwegian police described it as “Islamist terrorism” and added that the suspect has had “mental health challenges”.
Niinistö on Tweet said (switch to another service) he was “deeply shocked and saddened by the act of terrorism” and mentioned Finland’s “condemnation of terrorism in all its forms”.
Marin too said (switch to another service) there is no place for terrorism. Marin comments that his thoughts are now with the families and loved ones of the victims.
Marin, who last year described growing up in a “rainbow family”, was the patron of Helsinki’s Pride March. in 2020.
