“Vestido de Amor”: Chico César announces new album and concert in Portugal – Showbiz
One of the great names of Brazilian Popular Music, Chico César comes to Portugal for a concert in Lisbon on September 29, at the Capitólio.
The performance is part of the tour of the album “Vestido de Amor”, scheduled for release on September 23. The album is Chico’s first made outside Brazil, produced by French-Belgian Jean Lamoot.
This Friday, June 24, the Brazilian composer debuted the single “Vestido de Amor” on digital platforms.
The new concert marks the return of Chico César to the Portuguese, an initiation that began 25 years ago.
“The first time I went to Portugal was in 1997. Just guitar and percussion, but it was really cool. I feel at the front door opening the show of Daniela Mercury nos. It was a wonderful showcase, Daniela was singing “A Primeira Vista”, which was a hit. My first was quite well known and direct live a connection. Because I work with the word a lot for the public in Europe that perfectly understand my games with words, my experiments, it excites me a lot and I think that was stimulating for the Portuguese”, recalls the artist, who is excited to perform again for the public. Lisbon. “It’s always a joy to return to Portugal and have this reunion that has to do with Lusophony and the sound that words have taken and take within my intonation, my power of music.”
A profound connoisseur of Portuguese music and culture, Chico César has musical and fraternal partnerships on this side of the Atlantic Ocean.
“I have a very close collaboration relationship with artists like Né Ladeiras and Felipa Paes. I also have contact with Rui Veloso, Aline Frazão, Susana Travassos. Now more recently with Marisa Liz who went to Brazil to look for songs for her album. And also a strong approach with writers like Valter Hugo Mãe, Mia Couto and Agualusa because of the word thing in my music. This approach is very natural and stimulating for both sides.”
The album
“Vestido de Amor” is the album by Chico César. The musician designs an album with fixed cores: from northern Brazilian forró to Jamaican reggae, from Zairean rumba to calypso, from coco to electric urban rock. The work deeply shows the theme of Pan-Africanism, this time from the diaspora point of view.
Of course, politics is an essential part of the artist’s work, and this is very clear with the visceral track “Bolsominions”. A reggae that talks about Chico César’s vision of the supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro.
“Fortunately, we will not have four more years with Bolsonaro. I think there is a huge amount of work ahead and it won’t be a progressive, center-left government in alliance with the center-right that will make the country a paradise. Removing the room already gives a goat, but the aroma of the goat remains. And it will take time to get out”, he concludes.
