Environment – Munich – flower: relaxation of monument protection for renewable energies – Bavaria
Munich (dpa / lby) – The state government wants to facilitate the expansion of renewable energies in Bavaria by relaxing the protection of monuments. “We want to bring climate protection and monument protection together,” Science Minister Markus Blume (CSU) told the Süddeutsche Zeitung (Friday). According to the report, not only should more photovoltaic systems be allowed on historic buildings, but the construction of wind turbines in the vicinity of cultural monuments should also be secured.
For example, the monument status should only stand in the way of the construction of wind turbines in the future for “monuments that particularly shape the landscape”. These buildings worthy of protection include around 100 churches, castles or other monuments, including castles such as Neuschwanstein and Herrenchiemsee or the Liberation Hall in Kelheim. For all other monuments, a monument-related examination should be omitted if one or more wind turbines are to be built in their vicinity.
It’s about “preserving the interaction of man-made buildings and unique natural beauty, but never freezing,” said Blume. “For the greater part, it would be wrong to make the 108,000 individual monuments in Bavaria the benchmark.
“In general, the expansion of renewable energies should have priority,” said Blume, speaking of a “turning point in the preservation of monuments.” According to the report, the easing will soon be recorded in the Monument Protection Act.
