Slovenia strives to receive all Ukrainian refugees in the country
The Office for the Care and Integration of Migrants in Slovenia, currently located in the accommodation center in Debeli Rtič, is working to accommodate all Ukrainian refugees with temporary protection, thus increasing accommodation capacity according to the number of new immigrants.
In a statement issued today, the European Commission stated that from March 10, 2022, all those fleeing the war in Ukraine are allowed to apply for temporary protection status in Slovenia, reports SchengenVisaInfo.com.
“The reception takes place in the accommodation center in Logatec, and from there individuals are taken to other accommodation centers – such as Jelšane, Gornja Radgona and Velenje – which are available,” it says in a statement.
According to the European Commission, the center in Velenje is intended only for those who travel to other countries and who need only one place to rest in Slovenia.
Once these accommodation centers are filled, the office also intends to regulate uninhabited housing funds, such as those responsible for student dormitories and centers for school and extracurricular activities. In addition to these, there should be cooperation with other relevant state facilities.
“Once all suitable, available state-owned premises are fully occupied, the office will publicly urge it to find more locations to accommodate newcomers,” the statement also clarifies.
In early May, it was reported that a total of 5,738 Ukrainian refugees, including 2,149 minors, had applied for temporary protection status for displaced persons in Slovenia. In addition, the original number was 5,919, but some refugees have since left Slovenia. Data from the Slovenian police also showed that 21,980 Ukrainians entered Slovenia from the beginning of the war in Ukraine until May.
Last month, there were a total of 316 refugees in the Logatec center, where there is room for 250, and 91 in Debeli rtič, which could accommodate up to 80 people.
According to unofficial information, the office received 806 applications for financial assistance, of which one third was approved and the rest are being closed.
An adult with temporary protection status is entitled to 422 euros per month, every second adult in the family up to 70 percent of the amount, and children up to 30 percent of the amount.
