Schoolchildren in Ruggell receive a new seating platform – Liechtenstein
RUGGELL – On Thursday, head teacher Maria Kaiser-Eberle opened the new seating platform under the walnut tree in the school courtyard together with school class 2a. From now on, the platform will serve as a reading corner, outdoor classroom and shaded area on hot days.
Part of the lawn under the walnut tree in the inner courtyard of the south school building constructed in 2016 is mostly in the shade and was often wet. According to the municipality, the lawn did not thrive, had to be cordoned off for most of the year and was unusable.
Therefore, last year the school children, together with the school management and various teachers, were asked to contribute their ideas for this area. “More than 130 different ideas with drawings, plans in digital form or on paper were submitted,” the community continues. A cozy place to sit, lie down, relax and read has emerged.
CHF 90,000 for a durable platform
Screw foundations were installed under the platform to protect the large roots around the tree. The material is made of WPC decking boards (wood-plastic composite), which are durable for 30 years and are very weather and color resistant. The platform is supplemented with two larger loungers from local production.
The total cost was around CHF 90,000. Considering that the area can now be used by more than 200 children every day, according to Kaiser-Eberle, this is a very good investment.
