Iberian lynx population continues to grow in Portugal and Spain
The latest censuses of the best specimens in 2021 in Portugal and Spain, demonstrate that the Iberian conservation data of the best of Spain is enough, with the population growing and more stabilized at more than 1,000.
The most popular results presented in 2021 were 13 lynx nuclei, 12 found in Spain, five nuclei in Andluzia, three nuclei found in Castilla-La Mancha, four in Extremadura and one of the nuclei found in Portugal.
Currently, our breeding center located in the Guadiana Valley, a total of 209 counted during 2021, of which 139 are adults or young people. 31 breeding females were counted, which gave birth to 70 offspring during the 2021 season.
For the coming years, under the LIFE Lynxconnect 19 NAT/ES/001055 project, facilitated to reinforce the connection between the lynx reinforcement units and various Mediterranean ecosystems, with a view to improving the quality of the habitat and the abundance of prey.
The long-term conversion of the lynx over the years, the result of an effort over the years in an association of selected hunters, landowners, landowners, NGOs, municipalities and government entities, came together to seek and reverse the trend of evolution of a species on the way to extinction.
