Geneva Airport ready for a busy summer
The increase in demand can also be observed at Geneva Airport. Genève Aéroport, Easyjet, Swiss and Skyguide have been observing this increase since February, as they state in a press release. All indicators therefore confirm strong activity in summer.
According to Genève Aéroport forecasts, passenger traffic in July and August will reach 90% of pre-pandemic 2019 levels. Unlike other northern European airports that sometimes experience chaotic conditions, Genève Aéroport and its partners have taken quick action to adapt to the accelerated recovery. The aim is to offer users optimal travel conditions in terms of business and health. At the local level, all airport stakeholders have reinforced their teams and hired new staff to meet demand.
Based on the experiences at Easter and Ascension Day, where there was a high volume of traffic, various additional measures were used to increase the flow of traffic and the capacity. Among other things, Genève Aéroport reserves the right to open Terminal 2 (T2) to increase capacity should the situation require it. Some flights, notably those to Bordeaux and Nantes, will be transferred from the French sector to the international sector.
For the summer of 2022, the offer from Geneva will be significantly expanded: 121 destinations served by 43 airlines are available to passengers – not only to Europe but also beyond, especially to North America, the Middle East and Africa. Eleven long-haul destinations are mostly served daily.
