Ex-Salzburger Minamino agrees with Monaco » abseits.at
After 2 ½ years, ex-Salzburger Takumi Minamino is no longer a reserve player. The Japanese will move to Monaco, costing about twice as much as the transfer from Red Bull Salzburg to Liverpool.
In January 2020, the Reds put 8.5 million euros on the table to buy Minamino out of his contract after five years at Salzburg. Minamino made 198 appearances for the Bulls, recording 64 goals and 43 assists, and could easily be described as one of the crowd’s favourites.
The 42-time Japanese team player probably had a hard time in Liverpool and was almost a precious joker. Minamino played 53 times for the Reds and especially in the past season his record was probably impressive. Although he didn’t play a total of 1,000 minutes in 22 games, he did score ten goals this season, seven of which he scored in cup competitions and three in the Premier League. In the league, however, he was only once in the starting XI in 2021/22.
Now Minamino wants to be a regular again and has the chance to do so at AS Monaco. The Monegasques and the Japanese already agree. 15 million euros flow immediately as a transfer, another three million euros can be added through various bonuses.
This ends what is expected to be an exciting bidding for the 27-year-old. Recently, Atalanta Bergamo and Olympique Lyon were also interested in Minamino. Previously, Sevilla FC, as well as Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Leeds United and Southampton, where Minamino played on loan for six months, had also expressed an interest.
Minamino will be Monaco’s first summer signing. Previously they had only made exits, getting €80m from Real Madrid for Aurelien Tchouameni, and also losing Aholou, Sidibé, Fábregas and Mannone.
