public transport reinforced all summer to get to the beach
The Aix-Marseille Metropolis detailed this Tuesday the organization of public transport to reach the beaches during the summer. The frequency of certain buses is increased and special lines are in place.
To get to the beach this summer in and around Marseille, locals and tourists are encouraged to take the bus. The Aix-Marseille Metropolis has set up a special system for public transport until August 28.
A new beach bus
A special bus, called the Beach Bus, has been created to serve the beaches between the Prado and David roundabouts. Rotations are invoked every 4 minutes in order to unclog the regular lines of the network which see their attendance explode in the summer.
“We added buses, very long buses by the way, to have as many people as possible inside and that they can be a little more comfortable inside”, underlines Martine Vassal, president of The city.
16,000 daily travelers are thus registered by the Régie des transports marseillais on the regular lines 19 and 83 which notably serve the Prado beaches.
“Sometimes the buses are full so [les voyageurs] really wait at the stops where the buses do not stop”, underlines Guy Barotto, president of the federation of the Neighborhood Interest Committee of the 8th arrondissement, on the antenna of BFM Marseille Provence.
More crossings
These two lines are subject to a frequency reinforcement in the afternoon with a bus every 5 minutes on line 19 and every 6 minutes on line 83. It is the same for line 22 which leads at the creek of Morgiou with a passage every 30 minutes.
The line between the Old Port of Marseille to Pointe Rouge and Les Goudes is also back in service. It circular until September 25.
The details of traffic reinforcements during the summer can be found on the Mobility Metropolis website.
