Marseille: paralyzed legs, a retiree has not been able to leave his home for three years because of a broken elevator
In Marseille, a retired worker, suffering from poliomyelitis, has not been able to leave his apartment for three years. Nailed to his wheelchair, the 92-year-old man suffered from the dilapidation of his residence and in particular the fact that no elevator was in working order.
A human drama is playing out in Marseille in the residence of the Mail, which has 406 apartments for eight buildings. In the most degraded of these, no elevator works, as shown in a report by TF1. And Amnesty, 92, who contracted poliomyelitis as a child, has not been able to leave his home for 3 years.
This retired worker, who lives alone in his three-room apartment, has paralyzed legs and has to move around in a wheelchair. Without an elevator in his tower, he became a prisoner of his own apartment. His nurse, his home help and his children are the only people who allow him to keep in touch with life outside. “I can see the roof of the school over there, but I can’t see the bottom of the building or the road. I can’t see it down from my house anymore,” the pensioner explains next to his window. “Reflect that there is fire. It’s huge what I’m going through”.
Twice a day, a home nurse goes up to see the retiree. She testified to the dilapidation of this residence. “We mainly work in the northern districts. It’s true that there are a lot of houses that are dilapidated… This one in particular”.
