Mobile home catches fire when driving from Katschberg

On Sunday evening, a mobile home caught fire as it left Katschberg in the direction of St. Michael (Lungau). The vehicle’s brakes failed shortly before. The fire brigade was able to prevent worse.
The fire broke out around 8 p.m. Sunday. When the campervan’s brakes suddenly failed while driving downhill on the Katschbergstraße (B99), the 57-year-old driver from Germany was only able to stop it by engaging first gear and applying the handbrake.
Prevented the flames from spreading to the forest
Shortly thereafter, the vehicle began to smoke and a little later caught fire. The driver immediately alerted the emergency services of the St. Michael fire brigade. This can extinguish the fire quickly and also prevent the fire from spreading to the adjacent forest. No one was injured in the accident, but the RV is a total loss.
Motorcyclist seriously injured in fall on B99
A few hours earlier, the emergency services were also called to Katschbergstrasse near St. Michael for an accident involving two motorcycles. A 63-year-old motorcyclist from Upper Austria was seriously injured in a collision with another bike. According to the police, three motorcyclists had previously overtaken a car.
When the motorcyclists wanted to get back into their lane before a bend, two machines collided. The 63-year-old fell and was seriously injured. He had to be taken to the hospital by rescue helicopter.
