“In San Marino petrol costs very little,” but the social photos of the pumps are a fake
Photos depicting banners and totems of petrol stations with prices – so to speak – torn in light of the stellar increases that motorists in Italy have to deal with every time they need to fill up and “localized” in San Marino. However, it happens on social networks and not in reality: a “bubble” that risks deluding many who, in the worst case scenario, embark on a journey for nothing. Yes, because the most obvious photographic fake news is the ones it portrays an “Enemed” petrol station attendant who is actually in Malta: “1.20 euros per liter for diesel, 1.34 for petrol”. Not only that: someone accuses another shot, which dates back to five years ago. But you can only find a specific one on Facebook. However, it is easy to do a search and discover that “Enemed” is a Maltese company that “deals with the import of petroleum products for the internal market”.
“Minimum deviation”
Emanuel Santolini, contact person for the consumer counter of the small republic explains it well “The difference between local and Italian prices is minimal,” he says. «We are talking about a lower price around 10 cents. Those who come from Italy would spend more if they bear the costs of the trip. Maybe some frontier workers take advantage of it, but there are few cases ». Meanwhile Federconsumatori Rimini asks the Prefect for a meeting. “We ask – explains secretary Graziano Urbinati – for an anti-speculation table: the prefects can monitor the dynamics: social partners, associations of traders and consumers”. And he adds: «VAT should be calculated net and not on excise duties, which on the contrary should be removed. We will ask the government. Both this aspect and the possibility of putting a ceiling on prices ».
