Covid-19. cases is the world leader in new cases for 40 days
Portugal continues to be the country of SARS-Co2 infection by millions of more recent inhabitants every day, now becoming second in terms of the world with the seven newest cases of the pandemic.
According to the statistical website Our World in Data, the cases registered by Portugal fell from 1,663 per million inhabitants since the beginning of June to 1,091 according to the most recent data from the DGS.
By comparison, the European countries with the highest number of cases are France (493 million new cases in the last seven days) and Germany (480), less than half of the cases per population registered in Portugal.
Worldwide, considering countries and territories with more than one million inhabitants, Portugal has the highest number of cases per million inhabitants, followed by Australia (739), New Zealand (684) and Bahrain (570), being the leader on this indicator since May 13 – there are already 40 days.
Regarding the new deaths attributed to covid-19, Portugal maintains the highest in the European Union, with 25.4 deaths per million inhabitants in the last seven daysalmost equal to the average of 25.2 two weeks ago, followed by Finland with 10.3, Estonia with 9.1 and Spain with 8 deaths per million inhabitants.
However, in scientific terms and looking only at countries with more than one million inhabitants, Oman has the highest daily average of new deaths attributed to covid-19 (70.5 per million inhabitants), having registered an update of deaths by covid-19, with 368 deaths in the last week, after registering only 144 at the beginning of the year. Thus, since June 16, Portugal no longer leads the indicator, after having been the country with the highest mortality for three weeks, since May 27.
Behind Portugal is Uruguay, with 14.9 deaths per million inhabitants in the last seven days, and New Zealand (13.7) and Australia (12.8).
The average number of new cases per million inhabitants in the last seven days in the European Union is at 415 and the daily number of new deaths at 0.63. The world average of new cases is 67 and new deaths attributed to covid-19 is 0.17.
To compare the average number of cases in Portugal is 1,557, more than 23 times higher than the world average, while the average number of deaths is 3.63, 21 times higher than the world average.
