200 million from ÖBB for Salzburg train stations

The ÖBB want to invest an additional 200 million euros in Salzburg. Train stations in particular are to be modernized with the money, and the railways, together with the state of Salzburg, want to reduce the number of level crossings. Almost all districts should benefit.
By 2030, the federal railways and the state want to spend the extra 200 million in Salzburg, the majority – 150 million – come from the ÖBB, the rest from the state. The announced Bundesbahn board member Andreas Matthä and the Salzburg transport state councilor Stefan Schnöll (ÖVP) on Monday morning.
Specifically, it is about 34 train stations and stops throughout the state of Salzburg, which are to become so-called “multimodal nodes”. In concrete terms, the term means nothing more than a better connection to the rest of the transport network, above all the number of Park & Ride parking spaces is to be increased.
In addition, renewals in noise protection are on the agenda and the plan to close railway crossings – here, however, the coordination with the responsible municipalities is still missing.
Upgrades planned across the country
Over the next eight years, construction is to be carried out on the Westbahn, Tauern and Ennstal routes, with modernization under the Seekirchen (Flachgau), Hallein (Tennengau), Bischofshofen, St. Johann, Altenmarkt and Radstadt (all Pongau) stations.
In addition, ÖBB’s Austria-wide investment program will continue until 2027, with a total of more than 18 billion euros in expenditure. This also includes the construction of the Tauernmoos pumped storage power plant.
